New Montreal hub adds 21 MW and LEED Gold as investor expands digital infrastructure footprint
An AI-ready, hydro-powered data centre in Montréal has secured $240m in senior financing from La Caisse to support growing demand for hyperscale capacity and computing power in Canada, according to La Caisse and Cologix.
La Caisse, a global investment group, has provided the entirety of the senior debt financing for Cologix’s MTL8 colocation data centre in Technoparc Montréal, as per the companies.
The structure and building envelope are completed, and the facility is already in service.
Located in a major aerospace and technological hub near Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, MTL8 will deliver 21 MW of capacity and is powered by hydroelectricity, according to Cologix. The site integrates with Cologix’s dense interconnection network across its 11 other Montréal facilities.
In 2025, the MTL8 data centre achieved LEED Gold certification, confirming its sustainability features meet “the highest green building standards,” and making it “one of the first facilities of its kind to earn this distinction,” according to Cologix.
La Caisse managing director and head of private credit Jérôme Marquis said the fund has spent close to a decade of building exposure to digital infrastructure, citing “strong fundamentals and growing demand for hyperscale capacity and computing power.”
He said La Caisse’s third investment in Cologix follows a partnership launched in 2021 and fits its strategy of backing scalable digital infrastructure platforms.
“Canada has always been a core market for Cologix,” said chief financial officer Scott Schneider.
He said the company has a “strong, longstanding relationship with La Caisse” and that the partnership will help it “continue scaling infrastructure in Canada” as demand for cloud, AI and interconnected services grows.
