New Europe lead takes control of London-based team and regional infrastructure deals
OMERS Infrastructure is tightening its focus on Europe by naming Luca Lupo as senior managing director, head of Europe, a move that puts a London-based leader in charge of the region’s deal flow and asset oversight.
Lupo will report to Michael Hill, executive vice president and global head of OMERS Infrastructure, and will join the Infrastructure Management Committee.
Effective immediately, he will lead the regional team in London and oversee origination and the management of the platform’s European investments.
OMERS Infrastructure said Lupo has been part of its leadership since joining in 2022 and has worked on capital rotation and asset management programs across the portfolio.
The organisation said he originated the Grandi Stazioni Retail (GSR) investment, which marked OMERS Infrastructure’s entry into Italy, and currently sits on the boards of GSR and Associated British Ports.
Hill framed the appointment as a response to the importance of Europe in the platform’s strategy.
Michael Hill said Luca has deep experience in European markets and OMERS’s portfolio and maintains close relationships with portfolio company management teams, advisers and investment partners, according to OMERS Infrastructure.
He said Europe “is, and will, remain a core region for OMERS,” and that Luca will lead the platform into its next phase.
Lupo pointed to the existing portfolio and pipeline across key sectors.
Lupo said Europe is “a core market for OMERS,” where the fund has built an infrastructure portfolio and is pursuing projects in the energy, transport and digital sectors.
In a LinkedIn post, he added that he is “very excited to step into this role” and that OMERS Infrastructure has “an exceptional platform across Europe” that he aims to build on with the team and partners.
