Hudson's Bay announces layoffs in organizational shift

Hudson's Bay Co. has confirmed a new round of layoffs as it undergoes a "realignment" of its organizational structure, an effort to adapt to ongoing pressures in the Canadian retail sector.

The company noted that fewer than 100 employees are impacted by this decision, which constitutes less than one percent of its total workforce.

The department store chain described this move as “right-sizing” to secure the long-term success of the business. This announcement marks a continued trend, as it follows a series of layoffs the company executed last year.

In 2023, Hudson's Bay laid off 250 corporate employees in a similar initiative earlier in the year and another 250 in January, citing similar economic challenges in the retail industry. These successive layoffs highlight the sustained economic pressures affecting the retail sector in Canada.
