CPP Investments appointed Elio Luongo — who spent 38 years at KPMG Canada, including eight as its chief executive — to its board of directors.

Dean Connor, chairperson of CPP Investments, said Luongo “brings extensive experience from advising Canadian and global organizations on growth, transformation and long-term value creation.”

He added that his background would strengthen the board's oversight and support the fund's mandate to contributors and beneficiaries.

Luongo led KPMG Canada as CEO and senior partner from 2016 to 2024 and sat on KPMG International's global board as one of 18 members, according to the Department of Finance.

Before leading the firm, he held roles including Canadian managing partner of tax and regional managing partner for Greater Vancouver.

Beyond KPMG, Luongo carries an active director roster.

He sits on the boards of TD Bank Group — where he is a member of the risk and audit committees — and Tolko Industries, a privately owned Canadian forest products company.

According to his LinkedIn profile, He also chairs the audit committee at Blue J, a Toronto-based AI software company focused on tax and legal research

On the governance and non-profit side, Luongo has chaired the Canadian Centre for Audit Quality since 2021 and sits on the board of Unity Health Toronto, according to the Department of Finance.

A Simon Fraser University alumnus, Luongo was recently appointed the university's 13th chancellor and will assume the role later this year.
